1 We returned to Aswan on the evening of the 16th, stayed overnight on the Karim and them moved on to stay at the historic Old Cataract Hotel.
2 Aswan was our base of operations from the evening of May 16 to 18.
3 Old Cataract Hotel, viewed from the Nile River - it was named after cataracts (rapids) that were on the River before it was damned. The marque pictured in the first slide, is visible, right of middle top. A felucca passes on the far right.

Built in 1899 by Thomas Cook[1] to house European travelers, the hotel's guests have included Tsar Nicholas II, Winston Churchill, Howard Carter, Margaret Thatcher, Jimmy Carter, Princess Diana, Queen Noor. Agatha Christie set portions of her novel, Death on the Nile at the hotel.
